Best Sisig – Where to Find the Best Sizzling Sisig in the Philippines

Updated on November 18, 2010

I’m writing this hub because I’m craving for my Pinoy favorite food in the moment, sizzling sisig. Lucky me, I live in Pampanga, home of the best sisig in the Philippines. The original sisig hails in here. If you’ve tasted sisig from another town, boy, you’re still missing a lot! Nobody could cook the perfect sisig except Kapampangans. Taste it, to believe.

I remember the first time I’ve tasted sisig. Back when I was a teen, we had our quarterly exams and during such time in school, it means, halfday, an early dismissal. Instead of going home for lunch, I joined my friend to dine in the best resto outside our university to have a taste of the much talked about food around the campus, sizzling sisig. We ordered the top seller there, Korean BBQ and Sizzling Sisig. (Oh shocks, I have to dine in there again). Few moments later, our ordered arrived, set there in our table two sizzling plates, the Korean bbq smattered with white sesame seeds and bean sprouts and the one I’ve been waiting for – the sizzling sisig still smoking hot, savoring the aroma alone hinted me what it tastes like. My first sisig was served with a lil mayo on top and red chili peper with calamansi in the side. When I took a taste, it was so unforgettable—the taste so perfect with the irresistible blend of sour, spicy, meaty, herby yum yum yum. I ordered extra rice if you know what I mean. :)

Sisig, the unforgettable spicy food

What is sisig? Sisig, is very famous dish in the Philippines, made from boiled and chopped pig ears and cheeks, crispy pork skin, mixed with chopped onions, chicken liver and heart, seasoned calamansi juice, vinegar, soy sauce, and served on sizzling plates. It became so popular and in-demand that eventually followed numerous sisig variations. See the sizzling sisig picture below to have an idea how irresistible it is.

Best Sisig in Pampanga

Where to find the best Sisig? As I’ve mentioned a while ago, nobody can make the perfect savory sizzling sisig except the Kapampangans. Matter of fact, the recognized inventor of the famous dish was Lucia Cunanan (also known as Aling Lucing), from Pampanga, with her trademark concoction developed in 1974 made of boiled and chopped pig ears and cheeks, mixed with chopped onions, chicken liver, calamansi juice, vinegar and served on sizzling plates. Aling Lucing's Sisig, a restaurant founded by the brilliant cook is still serving nowadays although Aling Lucing died.

Why I love sisig Kapampangan more? The perfect blend of the original sisig ingredients are perfectly cooked and mix to bring out the right savor and taste of the dish and the pork is chopped and served in pure fine little bits, almost like grind-ed pork. I hate seeing the other town’s version of sisig, just not my appetite type. LOL

I’ve tasted the best sizzling sisig from the following restaurants, some of which have branches outside Pampanga. I’ve listed where to find the best sizzling sisig and their current prices.

For you, which resto serves the best sizzling sisig?

See results

Gerry’s Grill – it’s true, I’d rather be at Gerry’s. Whenever we dine here, we don’t forget their best seller dish, sizzling sisig. Gerry’s has the unique crunchy and crispy sisig in town. Plus their sisig is not so spicy, not so fatty. Perfect. Gerry’s restos are everywhere. In the moment an order costs 175 pesos only and enough for two persons. And btw, Gerry’s don’t charge service charges.

Aling Lucing Sisig – the pioneer of the original sisig, Aling Lucing’s sisig won’t disappoint my cravings. 170 pesos per order is so affordable, enough for two persons, too.

Mely’s Sisig and BBQ – you won’t only find the greatest barbecues in town, they also serve the best sisig in Pampanga for only around 200 pesos.

Congo Grille – their pork sisig is one of the best I’ve tasted. It’s the 2007 sisig festival champ by the way. Only 195 and it’s enough for two persons.

Unisite – it’s their fault why I love sisig so much. It is located near my university, Assumption. I heard they do catering, too. Back in the days, sisig per order only costs 35 pesos. Yup! Student meals are cheaper that’s why. I guess the price remains the same if not, just a few pesos were added.

Fisherman’s Grill – perfect for those who love their sisig with lots of liver, costs 195 per serving.

Sizzling Plate – I like their sizzling sisig especially with fresh egg cooked on top of the sizzling dish. Price of one order, good for one person, is 75 pesos only.

Dencio’s – their sisig is a little fatty and oily but still yummy though. A special sisig costs 200 for regular and 295 for large, good to two-three persons.

Sizzling Sisig perfect for beer lovers, too

Sizzling sisig is the number one dish ordered by beer-drinkers especially in the Philippines. It is considered as the top “pulutan”. Why beer-drinkers love this food? Simply because, it’s hot and spicy and the taste of sisig lingers in the mouth.

Variations and types of sisig

After the extreme demand of sizzling sisig in towns all over the nation, well-known restaurants and chefs has developed and introduced different flavors and types of sisig. The leader of sisig is of course, the pork sisig, it’s the original, soon other delicious sisig brands came out of the table. Sizzling pork sisig is followed by beef sisig, chicken sisig, tuna sisig, fish or bangus sisig, squid or ‘pusit’ sisig, tofu sisig, and even pizza sisig.

I want my sizzling sisig now! But I don’t wanna go out and dine in a resto nor order through delivery. I’m thinking to just cook my own and learn the right way of cooking it. I know it’s not so simple like it seems but who knows I can make my own version of the famous spicy food. You better watch this video, it’s the right way on how to cook pork sizzling sisig.
