You can job hunt, walk in personally by going to SG since it doesn’t require us visa or simply apply to the legit online websites that are hiring and offer jobs and available positions every minute. I have discussed the best ways on how to land a job in Singapore if you’re a Filipino in this page.

It’s 2014 and Singapore is still amongst the Top 10 Most Expensive Cities in the World to live in. For quite some time now, it’s also one of the favorite countries of overseas workers, foreigners and locals. Filipinos, Indians, Americans, Malaysians, and some Middle Eastern workers dream to work and live in Singapore. But why is that? It’s too expensive there, the rent, the food and lifestyle. Why do Pinoys still prefer working in Singapore? Some reasons I can think of are career opportunities, growth, the salary, cleanliness, close to home, nice weather and independence.

Jobs in Singapore this 2014 cover majority in the IT area, web developers, mobile apps developers, flash developers, finance, auditing, accounting, logistics, call center jobs, architecture, CAD draftsmen, nurses, hotel and restaurant services, food and beverage, bartenders, waiters and waitress, customer service and supports, casino staff, and admin jobs. There are full time jobs, part time or temporary jobs and contractual jobs for every employee. How to get hired and have a job in Singapore, well I’ve discussed the best possible ways for all Filipinos here including how to stay in SG, how to job hunt, what are the requirements and documents you need to pass, how much is the budget and how to be a resident citizen of Singapore.

How to apply for a job in Singapore?

If you’re a Filipino, it’s easier because you can reach Singapore in an hour flight. Airfares are usually low especially to some local and domestic airlines like Tiger Airways, Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, Philippine Airlines. Sometimes it costs 1500 roundtrip or 2000. On high peak, it reaches up to 5000 pesos and above. But really, it costs as much as a trip to Boracay so why bother. While you're on tour and seeing Sentosa and Universal Studio, why not get familiar with the place and look for job hiring if there are. Remember to list your prospect companies which also hire non-Singaporeans or non-PR although majority prefer SG PR. Before you apply, you must:

Requirements and documents you need when applying for a job in Singapore are:

  • Resume or CV
  • Authenticated Diploma
  • Authenticated TOR (Transcript of Records)
  • Work and employment certificates – from previous employers, must be related to the job you are applying
  • Some certifications of trainings related on your career or job applying
  • NSO birth certificate – you can apply for this online for free. But having this letter doesn’t guarantee you will have a job in SG.
  • NBI Clearance
  • Some decent photos of you

Prepare the mentioned documents when applying because employers online require them. Employers can interview you via video call or personal interview, their choice. If you are called for interview, ace it. Just make sure you bring your requirements and credentials.

Requirements to bring with you in your travel are passport, return tickets, hotel accommodation itinerary, money to afford your stay, valid IDs and letter of invitation in case you’re staying with a friend or relative who’s in SG. But I recommend you buy roundtrip tickets in advance before your tour with hotel accommodation already so you will have no problem in booking and you can save airfare.

Once you are in Singapore, you can apply for jobs online, and apply to offices personally by reading the classified ads from reputable newspaper called, The Strait Times. These trusted websites offer thousands of jobs in Singapore everyday:

Make your Resume/CV impressive and your certificates must be related to the job you’re applying. Stand out, be different, and impress the recruiters in the interview. There are lots of people who are also applying for jobs, so competition is always high. Most importantly, be courteous.

How to go to Singapore from the Philippines

Singapore is a member of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nation) and is an open country, so you don’t need a visa to go here if you’re a Filipino and a holder of Philippine passport. (See visa exemption for Filipinos to see the other countries that doesn't require us visa prior to arrival) When you arrived in Singapore, the immigration personnel will grant you 14 to 30 days pass to stay. In most cases, they will grant you 30 days. Like any other country, you can always ask for an extension depending on your purpose. You can request to extend by getting a EPEC letter from the ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority). It’s free and done online at this link. Read the requirements and conditions carefully.

How much money should I bring with me when going to Singapore?

Because Singapore is one of the top most expensive cities in the world, the cost of living is so high. The ideal budget for a Filipino is 50,000 pesos in a week of stay, if he/she stays with a friend or a relative. If you will be staying in a hotel, you need more money for that. Remember, you also have other expenses like meals, taxi/bus/mrt fares, and some unexpected stuff. Also remember, you cannot bring more than 10,000 units for any currency to comply with the anti-money laundering. If you have 30,000 pesos, you better have them exchanged to US dollars or SG dollars. Bring your atm card or credit card in case of emergencies. You know that already.

Remember, you can jobhunt online even if you are not going to Singapore. You can then go there when you are called for interview. SG is a very classy country. Seeing the hotspots is amazing.

Benefits of working in Singapore

There are great benefits and privileges working in Singapore. One is granted the same benefits and privileges as the local Singaporeans. Probationary period is ranging from 3 months to 6 months before you become a regular employee. There are different work passes depending on the salary. S Pass is given for workers with fixed-monthly salary of at least SG$2200 while E Pass is given for workers with fixed-monthly salary of at least SG$3300 and above.

Filipinos love it in SG because it’s close to home (the Philippines), the weather and timezone are the same, the salary is amazing, the people are so disciplined, SG has less crime, it is so clean and it’s a beautiful and modern city. Also you can bring your families after applying for a permanent resident citizen.
